ecoHELIX

Sustainability has been one of the major challenges of traditional development paradigms.  ECOHELIX promotes ecotourism as stewardship by mobilizing tourists as consumers at the local level through an online database. The intervention also promotes the collaboration of the public, private and civic sectors, and academia (both university and high school). Ecopreneurship, the promotion of ecologically responsible ventures, produces sustainable results and generates economic as well as ecological benefits and opportunities. The promise of the ECOHELIX as a sustainable model lies in its capacity to be replicated in tourism destinations around the world where entrepreneurship would benefit the local community.

The Beyond Chacay Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization in the United States, was created to provide our clients, Ecuadorian communities, and American, Canadian and European tourists as well as foundations and corporations, with an opportunity to invest in a new paradigm seeking to promote community based economic development, conservation and reciprocity through entrepreneurship.  The foundational concepts include:

  •  The Co Creation of Shared Value by investing in individuals, families and communities who produce raw material (chocolate, coffee, handicrafts, etc.) at the beginning of the value chain, enabling them to transform the raw material into their own products branded with their logo, promoted through their respective websites, for consumption by tourists who visit them, as well as through virtual marketing

  •  Associative entrepreneurship to replace the traditional dependence mindset (teaching community entrepreneurs how to fish: identifying the opportunity and idea, creating a strategic plan, developing the business model, marketing and operations plans, financial plan, execution, and evaluation)

  •  Ecotourism, with its triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit) provides sustainability, where tourists collaborate as conscientious and  sensitive consumers as well as investors in local business initiatives

  •  A cloud based platform offering training, coaching, marketing and sales for local products and services, including ecotourism itself

  •  A financial model where the local communities benefit first and foremost through investments that create a reliable and sustainable foundation for a thriving ecotourism ecosystem.

We introduce and engage tourists as stewards, in collaboration with their local hosts, in emerging market destinations, mobilizing innovation and technology to educate both visitors and guests as agents of transformation in the tourism industry value chain.

We will scale our transformational and sustainable Dynamic Ecosystem Destination model from the Galapagos Islands initially to tourist communities throughout Ecuador, as the most biodiverse country per square meter on the planet, and eventually to the rest of Latin America, Africa, and Asia
